CSL 5 Star Awards allow the CSL community to highlight the stand-out teams and referees that dedicate themselves to behaviors that support the life skills and development of the young men and women who play in CSL.

After each CSL game both teams are asked to rate the opposing team on a series of questions, they also rate the referee. In addtion, referees also rate the teams involved in their games.
Did you show respect? Did you play the game the integrity? Were you part of a positive game day experience?
Teams and Referees enter a rating between 1 and 5 stars on the CSL App. This valuable tool is unique to CSL, and offers the league a way to reward teams and referees beyond just the result on the scoreboard.
The feedback provided by teams and Referees is used to improve the league.
A "Five-Star" experience is our goal. The 5 Star Ratings data we receive can reveal where we are performing well, and areas we may need to improve. Based on that feedback we implement changes to provide the best possible soccer experience.
During each season our team reviews the ratings provided by both Referees and teams. Those who are not living up to the standards of CSL are communicated with. If the Referee or Team behaviors are not improved, they maye be removed from the league.
Without referees, no games could be played. It is important to CSL that we recognize those who are consistently rated highly by teams - we want the best refs! Following each season we reward top performing referee's with ref bags, 5 star patches, and gift cards!
Following every season our staff put together reports / infographics for Teams, Clubs, and Referee Associations. They outline various performance metrics, like average rating, top performers, match report %, ratings by age group, and much more!
“A positive safe playing environment is a basic expectation of every parent that commits their child to play. CSL is proud to be the only league in Southern California that offers referees and teams the ability to rate their fellow participants following games.
Through †his unique Five-Star Recognition Program, we engage the entire community in the creation of a higher standard of sideline culture and sportsmanship."
